The Conyers Tunnel?

You can't make this stuff up:
The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel should bear the name of veteran Michigan U.S. Rep. John Conyers, the City Council says., The council voted 8-0 Wednesday to rename the international crossing the John Conyers Jr. Tunnel. Among those backing the proposal was Councilwoman Monica Conyers, wife of the 77-year-old lawmaker. She introduced the resolution.
With their city circling the toilet bowl and the major automakers on the very of bankruptcy, the Democrats who run the city of Detroit have nothing better to do than to pay symbolic tribute to their fellow Democrat.

The story about the Conyers tunnel was a sidebar to the main story about a federal jury convicting a former Conyers aide for skipping out on an earlier sentencing hearing:
A federal jury convicted a former aide to U.S. Rep. John Conyers of failing to appear for his sentencing in a fraud case.

DeWayne Boyd, 49, was convicted of the charge Wednesday, U.S. Attorney Stephen Murphy said Thursday.

Boyd, formerly of Detroit, had been convicted Dec. 15, 2004, of charges including mail fraud, making false declarations under oath, making false statements to investigators, bankruptcy fraud and theft of government property.

Boyd was released on bond pending a hearing scheduled for April 12, 2005, at which he was expected to be sentenced to 30 to 46 months in prison. But according to evidence produced at his latest trial, Boyd lied to the State Department to get a new passport to replace the one the government had confiscated while his fraud trial was pending.

The FBI eventually located Boyd in the African country of Ghana. He was arrested Dec. 30 in the capital city of Accra and was returned to the United States.

Former aide to Conyers? Well, if Boyd ever gets out of prison, maybe he can get a job babysitting. Probably got lots of experience at that ....
